I definitely love the designs for Ryoko and Washu. I was never a fan of Washu’s design but now I totally dig it. What they did with Ryoko’s hair is really cool, an attempt at making it look quasi-realistic while retaining it’s characteristics. Everybody else looks pretty normal, in fact the only redesign I could care less about is Mihoshi, but I know that outfit is almost straight from the OVA (I didn’t like it there either!).

Didn’t like original designs? dawohki1 Sad face. But it’s cool, your opinion is your own.

Definitely wondering what the mark on Ryoko’s chest and Ayeka’s leg mean. Hey, anything to give them more story relevance!

    Hmm…I got it!

& for my own two cents, the outfits are cool, look a lil’ too skimpy to just be wearin out n’ about (prob not their classroom attire…if they end up in a classroom, that is). The designs themselves for the characters are pretty much how I imagined for years “what would happen if Tenchi became modernized?” (given the current anime climate) and I think they’re pretty rockin. Can’t touch the originals (but how could they?) but I feel like I’m getting a fresh take on familiar favorites.

A sweet, modernized take on Peter Gunn, made for a sweet, (then) modernized take on SpyHunter!

    I looooved this game.

You think so? I hope you’re right, but at first glance, especially with the veil, it really looks like a wedding to me.

Sorry to say but I am disappointed by this. the characters look so generic and just replacements of the original girls and the plot it sounds like a carbon copy of Date A Live. I know I shouldn’t judge it till I see it or bash it but I’m disappointed that the REAL tenchi girls don’t look like they aren’t going to get any spot light. How sad.

I share some similar sentiments. Overall I’m still excited for the new series, and they haven’t given me enough of a reason for me to withdraw from my usual “don’t knock it til ya try it” policy; but Snow, you literally took a few choice words out of my mouth with things like “generic” and “disappointed” but that’s me being brutally honest.

    ….eeeeeehhhhhh…. :-?

    (insert “Not Sure If”.jpeg here)

With what little we know currently, now I’m developing an inkling of a mindset “this is too catering to ‘new’ anime fans” but we’ll see. I’m still of the opinion that as far as announcing new details goes, they are decidedly getting the new girls out of the way to try to minimize the expected knee-jerk misoneism. If they focus on fundamentals–Tenchi and the girls, not the girls–and don’t end up with some hair-brained situation of Tenchi “getting” ALL the (new) girls (of course, rom-com antics along the way are to be expected and more than welcomed) Negishi can pull this off.

EDIT: on a much more positive note, congrats on the well-deserved shoutout, Mr. Crazed, and thank you once again for doing the leg work.

Do not forget Tenchi is essentially a God at this point. There is no one above him, and everyone is now below him.

Oh, I certainly haven’t forgotten. Prob why lots of us “clamor” about these types of conundrums so much:

You’re essentially saying there should be no more possibility of WoG continuations, no new anime for any new characters he adds, or anything of the like.

    Did some people say that? I for one sure haven’t, in fact I’ve gone on record saying I’d like more WoG (which even though it’s canon is a spinoff–sequel is a stretch, even Kaji himself didn’t have “TM” in title, like GXP–not OVA narrative directly);

Just for the record, but moving right along….

    It may indeed be so.

Yeah, cause NOTHING like this has ever happened in the history of mankind. ^_~

What does history of mankind and Tenchi content have to do with one another, pray tell? Civil war, genocide and revolutionary causes have all happened in the history of mankind…don’t mean I want/need it in Tenchi.

Yeah, ’cause there was no incest nor polygamy in OVA 1 or OVA 2. ^_~

You got me there. But I was always a bit uncomfortable with the sibling arranged marriage set up for Yosho and Ayeka, but I overlooked it (plus it didn’t actually happen!). Same with Azusa’s two wives–didn’t like it, but not a big deal. Then – If – comes out: he has children with not just more than one woman, but the eternal rivals of Ryoko and Ayeka at that: didn’t care for that at all, but still I took it. Then we find out he has kids with the cabbit…I’m hanging on by threads. It’s only just now, with part 2 and Ryo-Ohki’s kids that I’ve more-or-less said “so be it, it’s been fun, but I’m off the Kajishima band wagon, best of luck to everyone still on it” etc.

Which is why I said this in the first place, right off the bat:

It seems the future of Tenchi will once again, for many, be a fork in the road: there’s Kajishima’s vision, and then there’s Love. I used to be on board with all things Tenchi…then with recent releases circa mid 2000’s, I had to reevaluate my positions. Now in 2014, personally, I can’t support Kajishima in any way if this is his sincere vision for the future of the franchise. That doesn’t mean I don’t accept it as his vision, it doesn’t mean I won’t keep myself and others well-informed with his new releases, and it sure as hell doesn’t mean I can’t get along just fine with folks who do support said vision, but to put it bluntly, cabbit/human children in an incest-ridden polygamist compound is not what I signed up for in the summer of ’00. It has yet to be seen how or even if Ai Tenchi Muyo! will be more up my alley, but here’s to hoping.

And you know what? Here’s to hoping Kajishima fans get whatever it is they’re looking for too, I’ll take a swig for everyone!

Sure. Why not? Because, again, I’m a Tenchi fan and staff on the modern-day presence in the fandom outside Japan, so of course I’m not only going to vouch for allowing said discussions on the board (and I do mean “discussing” not berating), but I’ll jump in from time to time as well…you know, if that’s okay with everyone. 😉
