Fantastic! Is this entirely fan-made, or just painted? It’s amazing, good enough to be some kind of official teaser (like the back-to-back with Geminar and Tenchi, sounds like a loud hint hint to me, and I like what this uploader is driving at).

p.s. Tenchi with six lighthawk wings?! (oh yeah, or can Tenchi-kami do however many he wants?)

Great question! Idk, but thats why universe is fun, it’s so open ended (like, where’s nagi from? Where’s washu or ryoko from, for that matter?). As for kiyone in kajishima universe…i sometimes overlook she’s there at all (mihoshi special is canon, right? Even so, i wonder how much kajishima personally invested in it, because why would he have tenchi’s mother and mihoshi’s partner have the same name? … crud, hope i didnt open a whole can o worms just there) but i would say there’s plenty of room for her to not have been from jurai (like the kuramitsus, dont know exactly where theyre from, but obviously it’s a climate prone to create darker skin…or miho’s family just tans alot).

I would bet my right big toe FUNi will dub this one eventually.

But of course. 😉 In the meantime:

    I only bet if it’s a sure thing 😉

Sadly, Arise is one for me personally–not unlike Roberta’s Blood Trail–that I’ll likely end up waiting to watch dubbed because like RBT to Black Lagoon, I loved the dub of Ghost in the Shell so for verisimilitude’s sake I don’t think I want to “spoil” it for myself ahead of time (a part of me lamented not having seen RBT sooner, but overall I’m glad I waited).

Interesting move on FUNi’s part…very interesting…first time they’ve ever released a “sub only” for a title they’ve acquired. I think it’s a good idea this go around, but it’s strange, I don’t know how I feel about it if they should decide to do this more often: on the one hand, I think they (or someone) ought to do this more to make series like Kaji more accessible to non-Japanese viewers; on the other hand, if this was FUNimation doing it, it would be for a title they have the licensing rights to, which undoubtedly means they’d want to dub it, and as much as I love dubs, I don’t know if it’s always achievable or desirable–especially, in the case of the aforementioned example, by FUNimation (no offense).

Even though it would seem at first to be not in their best interest, and certainly against the grain of what they’d normally do, perhaps FUNi should consider, for certain titles–titles they nor anyone else has dubbed–acquiring the rights simply to make a subbed version available to consumers in a collectible disc format without dubbing it (generally speaking I mean, I’m not against Arise being dubbed). Guess we’ll see how well this first disc set sells.

While it’s almost always impossible to discern how much (if at all) person A was inspired by [x], when you notice or suspect similarities such as these, it’s never “wrong” to point out your opinion.

Myself being largely unfamiliar with Code Geass (yes, I’m such a noob) my opinion don’t weigh much here, but on a superficial level, I do see your points Amitav (& yours, shades, with regards to Yukine). Part of the “problem” international critics often bring up with anime as a medium is, while it can have very vibrant, unique characters, not only do they often fit into well-established archetypes, but stylistically anime characters are often drawn with very similar features and techniques across series, which at its worse leaves viewers with a “cookie cutter” impression of stock character designs (thus to many Western viewers, when they hear “anime” they think of a specific, stereotypical look that they think all anime has; they’re wrong, of course, but they’re not terribly far off by and large).

Wrapping up, while comparisons of specific characters in relation to other specific characters (personality-wise, appearance-wise, or whatever) will often never go beyond fans’ subjective opinions or pondering, everyone (Kajishima included) is inspired by others, it’s nothing new to the creative process, nor is it a sign of weak creativity or anything else (but mindlessly copying something is, however *cough cough, Hunger Games, *cough Battle Royale *cough…pardon me). Kajishima may have been inspired by Code Geass for Geminar, but then again maybe he wasn’t; could be coincidence, but my personal opinion is it’s highly unlikely that it’s entirely coincidence, he probably “borrowed” from it. I mean, for all us Tenchi fans, as novel as Tenchi truly is, if you haven’t done so already, stop by your local internet and look up Oh My Goddess (or, Ah My Goddess, anime form). There’s another instance where I think there’s credible reason to believe Kajishima got some inspiration (imo, of course).

So Crispin Freeman is in the Photon dub?One of the best male VAs out there.Even though I’m more into

subs these days I would have to say that two of the best American VAs ever would have to be Crispin

    Freeman and Wendee Lee.

Indeed, indeed, Crispin Freeman is in the dub. I should have read this thread a long time ago, before I obtained my dvd copy at Otakon…

    http://tenchiforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&p=19514#p19514” class=”bbcode_url”>http://tenchiforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&p=19514#p19514

    …but I digress

Interestingly enough, ML, I found on my dvd copy the exact opposite of your particular source with regards to the dub version toning down Photon’s age (not bashing or saying you were wrong, this is just what was on my dvd I watched recently). They “up-play” (opposite of downplay? lol) his age precisely because of the nudity. As stated by shades, Photon is certainly very young; not knowing his precise age, I would have pegged him as even younger, say like Son Goku in Dragonball aged (then again, I guess I don’t know his precise age, either), but 15 is a good guess. But the point is even 15 was too young for the English version distributors, so to play it safe, in a seemingly last-ditch effort to make it less appalling to conservative-natured folks, they put a disclaimer before the video starts that says something to the effect of “all characters in this production are at least 18 (or maybe 19, can’t remember) years of age” & blah blah nudity, blah blah.

Even though, of course, the few times Photon is in the buff, the context is non-sexual, I can see why (especially in the nineties) production people would want to play it extra safe (but Photon being 18/19 yrs? That’s just incorrect, imo, and I’m guessing centralparkmedia knew that but “fibbed” anyway).

Now, for folks who haven’t seen it, there are some scandalous scenes, but they’re of the whimsical, typical anime fan-service type, nothing more “egregious” than in Tenchi. I’ll probably say more later, but it’s great, see it.

Oh, and just so I can add my own little patch to the quilt of funny “well how about that?” ‘s that ML and Makoto started: I happen to buy both Photon and School Rumble at Otakon, two (unrelated) series I love. I particularly love the intro to School Rumble, “Scramble” which is sung by Yui Horie…who also voices Aun in Photon! Small world & all that, eh?

    p.s. Soundmonkey… $14.49? FFFFemo (jk, lucky!) 😉

Alll these pics and tidbits of Kenshi’s childhood thus far–they’re indicators to me that Kajishima is going in the right direction; not only for SKT as a standalone, but for the overall canon as well. Ever since I saw ova3, afterwards I always wondered, in ova terms, “well, where do we go from here?” As others I’ve come to meet and become acquainted with over the years have grasped and speculated, what many people have arrived at, I’ve noticed, is that no matter what crazy sci-fi elements Kajishima wants to do, or how people felt about them, if he gets back to what made Tenchi important–the domestic, love quadrangle/slice-of-life aspects–Tenchi fans are happy (& in this way, unites us!).

In formulaic terms, baby Kenshi is exactly what the Tenchi household needed to get back to a degree of “normalcy” (very relative term, in this context!). He becomes this focal point for everyone’s positive efforts (the reason, as many people have pointed out, he’s a bit OP) and a new, more down-to-earth center around which further plots with the original Tenchi cast can emerge.

EDIT: Whoops, this is an IMAGE thread…
