Makoto_Mizuhara wrote:Semi-correct. The reason is it’s because it’s following Naked Snake at the age of 49 years old. And since mister Hayter’s only 44, Kojima wanted someone a little older for the role… and that’s where Kiefer Sutherland comes into play.
Pft. Yeah because trained, professional voice actors can only play roles that are aligned
preciselywith their own age. Seriously, how different would a 49 year old man sound from a 44 year old? Sorry, if I sound upset it’s not you, Makoto, I’m confused and irked that David Hayter was replaced, especially if it’s as you say because that’s a very trivial reason that holds about as much water as a rusted out thimble. - July 17, 2013 at 6:22 PM

^Good question, ML, but I think you kind of answered it yourself (at least, what my answer would be). mitsuki lover wrote:How obvious a Western can it be when the planet it takes place on has the same name as one of the most legendary Westerns in American tv history?
Like you and dagon said, it very much pays pays tribute to the Western genre. So, I think it’s not an accident the name is taken from a very popular American TV western (my dad
lovesit). Similar vibe with the names of the settlements (New Oregon and so forth). Not only are they little throw backs to America and “The Old West” but they would be familiar enough to be legitimate names human settlers might give to their towns, while at the same time having a level of unfamiliarity and “foreign” vibe to Japanese audiences.
I remember the first time I was introduced to the Nebraska family I was like “omg! Nebraska mentioned in an anime!”

Are we doing this? I don’t care that it might be off topic, tell me we’re doing this! I’m not entirely sure, seeing as how I was in some sort of FO3 coma, but I’m pretty sure it constituted my life between 08-09. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever become engrossed with a game as much as I did that one.

Cool! As of now, we don’t really have a date pegged down for the next one (Pretty Sammy) but it will be on a Saturday, 3pm Eastern (US). We will post in this forum
more info when we have it, but in case you miss a new post(s), if you’d like to be in the next one (we only request that you have seen Pretty Sammy in some capacity, so you can have something to talk about) we can send you a message to let you know.http://tenchiforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=15 ” class=”bbcode_url”> http://tenchiforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=15 Also, any one of us (Dagon’s your best bet) can help you set up Mumble if you need assistance.

Good point, I don’t believe we have. I’m certain we’ll do one on the
Mihoshi Specialat some point, perhaps we could fit it in there. Or, maybe a cast about the backstories (different continuities, etc.) of the characters? - July 17, 2013 at 1:04 AM

highgear56 wrote:You know, I’ve always wondered why Ryoko attacked Tenchi the first episode and almost killed him if she’s interested in him (as explained in ep 5; she watched him grow up). It never made sense to me. She wasn’t just playing around, she almost killed him until the sword activated unbeknownst to both of them.
Good question. Your opinion is valid, thus I can’t say mine weighs any more heavily than yours, but my response would be she
wasplaying around with him. The rooftop? She’s laughing merrily as she blasts energy bolts at Tenchi just sparsely spaced enough between intervals to allow him to narrowly escape. Tenchi being terrified probably delighted Ryoko (she didsay she was a sadist, after all). Plus, she’s been stuck for 700 years! She needed to unwind a bit. Now, when she saw sword Tenchi, did she get serious at that point? I’d say definitely, that thing symbolizes some bad memories for her.
Opponents of my “theory” will state that Ryoko was only interested in Tenchi after she realized he had sword Tenchi. This was later proven false, as we see via flashback, Ryoko had taken an interest in Tenchi’s life far before he had any knowledge of an heirloom that, for all intents and purposes, would have remained out of his possession for his entire life (if he’d listened to Grampa).
On top of that, as a preemptive defense to “why wouldn’t she want to kill Tenchi?” the more logical query would be what purpose would she have for killing Tenchi? Or more importantly, what motivation would she have for doing so (even if she wasn’t crazy in love with him)?
The verbal taunting on the part of Ryoko, along with her gestures, actions and our accumulated knowledge of how powerful Ryoko actually is (though not her original, the pseudo-gem she possessed granted her much power) and her personality in general all lend towards my belief that she didn’t genuinely want to kill Tenchi at
anypoint. An analogy I’ve used before: Ryoko is very childlike in certain ways, no? (not in a creepy way, but rather she’s immature despite her advanced years). Not to say this can’t happen with both sexes, but I’ve found girls tend to think about relationships, marriage etc.
farsooner than boys do, by and large (yes, they tend to mature physically sooner, but we’re talking even before that). Dunno’ why, but it’s true. So fellas, remember the girl that would always tease you and pinch you and occasionally trip you or push you on the ground outside at recess, giggling as she did it? At that age, we boys can’t fathom why on Earth anyone would behave that way (other than “she must hate me”) but very often the case is
she liked you. Girls (particularly more boorish ones, e.g. Ryoko) will often act seemingly cruel towards the boy they actually have a huge crush on. So, amplify and apply that to an energy-wielding, sword-bearing, flying demon caller from space, and you’ve got yourself

Good on ya.
Also, good time to ask, since this was brought up ever since we speculated doing a Pretty Sammy cast: is Mihoshi Special thrown in with this one, or not?
Also, as far as Pretty Sammy goes are we covering
everythingattached to the name (Magical Girls Club)? I would assume it would be a good time to bring them up. - July 16, 2013 at 6:36 AM

Possible ideas we haven’t hit yet (in no particular order)“Kara-ohki” (I only wish I could take credit for that brilliant name)
Mirror Universes (evil Tenchi, benevolent Kagato, etc.)
TLF: Tenchi Abridged
Tenchicast (that’s right, a cast about the cast)
FUNi re-releases (when it’s okay to double dip!)
Who could replace whom? (speculative, just for fun alternative voice actors for our favorite characters)
Doujins/Novels
No Need for Fanfiction (get a chance to pitch your written work and/or ideas)
AMVs (talk about favorites, works and authors, be they new kids on the block or artists of yesteryear)
Each spinoff getting its own cast:–
Dual!(re-uploaded/re-recorded as necessary) –
El-Hazard–
PhotonConvention/cosplay related
Dubs (Tenchi has been dubbed, officially and fan-dubbed, into several other languages other than Japanese
orEnglish!) All this aside from specials and other even “special-er” casts we’ve got in mind for the future.

shadowsfall0 wrote:Other than that, if I’m watching any show or movie that I am trying to pay attention to, and there are people talking…It drives me crazy
On that note, it really bugs me when I’m watching a series/movie with someone, and instead of watching it with me as I am taking the time to either introduce them to something I thought would interest them, or am entertaining a recommendation from them/their desire to watch it with me, they’re just flipping through their smart phone the whole damn time. Off and on, off and on, the looking up then looking back down, grrr!
What’s more annoying is if they won’t put their damn thing on vibrate/silent, and they somehow can’t figure out that it might be distracting for other people, or themselves (seriously, during my recent Tenchi Saturday Night viewings with friends, my one friend was an offender in this regard for three weeks in a row. I thought he would figure it out, but finally I had to be “rude” and say “could you possibly please put that on vibrate?”).
Darn smart phones in general. Everyone’s always on them, surfing the web, checking their status updates, while they’re out to dinner with you, while watching a movie, while walking around downtown, ALL THE TIME! To me it conveys disinterest in whom you’re spending time with (in my case, me) and intentionally or not, is rather rude.
The product of our age. We’re everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

The bad news: as some of you are fully aware by now, it has been quite some time since the last Tenchi Abridged episode. TLF does not have a specified time-frame down for when the next episode will be finished. The good news: very recently, we have received first-hand confirmation that TLF still fully intends on continuing the series, so it’s just a matter of “when” as opposed to “if.” Universeis scripted, and after vocal performances are recorded, editing can take place. While this is a rather uninformative update, it is
somethingfor all us brave little TLF fans to cling to. And, of course, we’ll let you know ASAP when we know more. Stay tuned!
