Yeah, well, it’s not like it’s up to us when our panel takes place; just gotta’ go with the schedule. On the plus side, the good thing about cons is there are a number of people who stay up late/pull all-nighters, and everyone is pretty much on their on schedule anyway. If people see something they really wanna’ attend, they’ll find time to sleep during events they’re not as interested in.

I enjoy all the movies for different reasons. It’s actually difficult to pick a favorite because of that fact. Yuzuha is a memorable villain–she seems so despicable, but really is another one of those Tenchi antagonists you end up feeling sorry for by the end (& like Tenchi Foreveranother instance in which Yosho’s past seems to catch up to him for successive generations to sort out). It’s also a very similar dynamic to TiT: an ‘intruder’ in the group dynamic, and predictably, Ryoko and Ayeka are not very keen on her (especially Ryoko). This allows for some intense dramatic moments–such as the one Sublyminal alluded to–that reach, arguably even surpass similar ones in TiT in an incredibly short amount of time without feeling rushed (one rather short movie compared to an entire series, not that I’m trash-talking TiT).
Even the existence of Mayuka as an entity and her autonomy/lack thereof to her creator Yuzuha is reminiscent of Sakuya as Yugi’s “shadow” as is her being reborn and the prospect of her joining the Masaki household in the future. You can’t help but see the irony in Mayuka’s and Sakuya’s dub voice being the same actress
😆 There’s even some funny moments; one in particular for me is K.T. Vogt as an evil teddy bear (I don’t have official citation on this, but tell me that’s not Washu in evil teddy bear form)

I know that some people are of the opinion that Mihoshi and Kiyone were lesbians, and that wouldn’t bother me, but I just see them as having a very close, best friend/sisterly relationship. Like, I have a best friend who is clumsy, bubbly, always late… but she’s awesome
Are there really relationships like Miho-Kiyo in other shows? Briefly reminds me of Rei and Usagi in Sailor Moon. I’ve said this before once upon a time somewhere, but I see a very similar dynamic with the relationship between a certain two representatives of Bernardelli Insurance.

Milly: yes, a bit ‘airheaded’ (or perhaps, quite a bit), usually cheerful, tends to be blissfully ignorant of the gravity of the situation, but a loyal friend once you become one to her.
guess which is Miyo and which is Kiyo!

😆 lmao so true. They–err, she (?)–look good in that pic.
Great work everyone, it’s okay that they’re not ready for Ohayocon, this is our first ever con as a convention, so much has gone right already, and there’s sooo much else to prepare for. The T-shirts can wait, so rest easy on that note JG (you’re doing so much already).

I’d almost be more inclined to believe a photograph of bigfoot were posted here when I first heard lol 😆 but from what we know with regards to the context of the photo, I’d say there’s a good chance it could be him. Whether we’ll ever know officially or not doesn’t make it less intriguing to me, the mystery is appealing. If this is him, and he’s extremely reclusive, knowing his picture got onto the internet might not encourage him to go back to any cons.
Movies thread? Well…I could talk for a spell about movies (praising or complaining, whichever direction the conversation flows) good idea chuck, and I can’t say I’m all that surprised since one of the things I’ve learned about you via this forum is your love of all things cinema, and that’s just…so cool! I’ll just start with Makoto’s prompt: what makes me cry (in movies, to narrow it down)
😆 It’s a curious thing, because I’m never quite sure what will do it for me. Though I’m with chuck in the fact that it’s not just the “sad” things that get me, it can be the triumphant moments or the touching moments that can make me well up. Though not just any happy moment will do; I have to be invested in the characters.
But I think the most reason something will really tug on my heart strings–why any scene in any particular movie will have that effect on people–is when it transcends the diegesis of the film and hits home in a personal way.
Recent case in point: In Peter Jackson’s
The Hobbitthe scene in which Gandalf tells Galadriel his reasons for choosing Bilbo–a hobbit, of all creatures–for his quest: “I don’t know. Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found.I find it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps because I am afraid, and he gives me courage.” That line in particular is so heavy emotionally for me, because–not to go off-topic with the point of this thread, but especially evident since certain recent events transpired here in America–we live in some dark times right now. There is darkness in the world, it’s real, and it has many faces; it rears its ugly head when certain inexplicable horrors happen, and we’re left wondering ‘why?’. Against such seemingly insurmountable dread, it’s not the “big” things that keep the world spinning (so to speak) but the little things, the acts of kindness that go unnoticed that keeps evil in check. In this day and age where media is EVERYWHERE and we’re constantly assaulted with dogmatic rhetoric, and mind-numbing adverts, and hypocritical acts of fake piety, nowadays the best way to be “loud” with any kind of statement is with a soft voice of reason (speak softly, carry a big stick) rather than attempting to rant about “the end times” in NY square or condemning people for their sinfulness on the steps of the capitol (or something equally absurd). I guess I’ll close this unplanned, unorganized rant with a strong take-home theme from
The Hobbitthat I’ve found significant: whether it’s dealing with everyday circumstances in The Shire, showing restraint with Gollum or going on a crazy adventure with a band of dwarves he just met, Bilbo time-and-time again does the right thing–in big andlittle ways–not for profit, or a “greater cause” or as dictated by any kind of religion–simply because it’s the right thing to do. I think that kind of thinking can go a long ways if we all give it a chance once in a while. (we now return you to your regularly-scheduled thread)
