I like it! Amazing that you just threw this together from the ideas that hit you from your posts (awesome when inspiration hits like that isn’t it?). Interesting characer design for this Itsugi (dunno why, but in all seriousness when I read it his voice sounded to me something like George Takei…dunno why) the air of neutrality about him is a bit unsettling and this short excerpt brings up alot of questions about him: is he ‘good’ or ‘evil’? What are his motives? What kind of pills is he
reallygiving to Kiyone? EVIL pills to turn her…EVIL???!!! 😯 could go a number of ways with that.- April 26, 2012 at 9:00 PM

I’m so sorry guys!!! The cake, the pudding pops, the half-finished cherry pepsi with the saran wrap over the top & the sticky note that clearly read ‘Dagon123’s DO NOT TOUCH’ in black sharpie…it was all ME!!! I can’t help myself when I see the fridge in the official TenchiForum break room! I’m weak, soooo very weak!!!

Just a guess, but knowing Mihoshi…just a fluffy bunny tail? (you know, the kind you wear on your head)

Netflix has two different dubs of the SAC series… one is a smashed together 160 min OVA…
it is terriblecompared to the full thing. You want the 2 – 26 episode seasons one with Kusanagi on the cover… not the blue and pink cover Laughing Man and Individual 11 OVAs.
Solid State Society picks up like 3 or 5 years after the end of 2nd Gig.
Thanks for the heads up! I haven’t watched the Laughing Man oav yet, perhaps I’ll just avoid it (the laughing man plot is already tiresome in the series imho, how they make a full oav out of it is beyond me).
I believe I’m watching the two 26 episode series of which you speak, so hopefully I’m on the right track.
*wow really? two different English dubs? Kinda like Ocean & Funi with DBZ?

Currently during what little spare time I have, I’ve been watching Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The original Ghost in the Shellmovie is phenomenal on all fronts, and seeing as how I’ve never seen the series, and Netflix has most of the anime spinoffs, I figured what better time to get back into it? Also thought it’d be fun to bring it up here because I couldn’t help but notice Sherry Lynn as the troublesome Tachikoma robots in the English version.

*I must admit I’m a tad unsure on this, but all other anime material other than the first film &
Innocence(Stand Alone Complex and the oav) were written and directed by someone other than Mamoru Oshii, thus are not in the same canon correct? Either way, still enjoyable series thus far. - April 25, 2012 at 11:03 PM
- in reply to: The Mihoshi Special
When dealing with a story or recounting of events from Mihoshi’s standpoint, you can bet there may be some absurdity along the way. I love the Mihoshi Special, even though when I first stumbled upon it, I wasn’t exactly sure which canon, if any, it belonged to (though I suspected not Universe, seeing as how through the framing device of the Masaki household before the flashback, Kiyone was nowhere to be found). Now that others have mentioned it, I totally get a Universe vibe from MS as well (admittedly, probably mostly because of Kiyone). I think it’s the fact that we see the main cast on crazy space-detective escapades portrayed in a ‘just-for-fun’ style that really brings out these feelings, not at all unlike the Time and Space Adventures episodes in Universe, at least for me (and I guess seeing Ryoko portrayed as actually being a child at one point, as she is in Universe and not in OAV…& it’s been a while since I’ve watched MS, but isn’t Kiyone’s ship
Yagamialso in there somewhere?). Not to detract from Kiyone’s appearance and her partner for which the special is named, just throwing in my perspective, I really enjoyed MS also for–can you guess?–Ryoko. Returning yet again to the ‘Universe vibe’, we get to see Ryoko (even though only in Mihoshi’s version of past events) as a space pirate! & as such doing things you’d expect a space pirate to be up to on a regular basis…you know, plundering cargo from space ships, looting, & generally on-the-lam from the law? That sorta thing.
Eat your heart out, Akira Toriyama

In my humble opinion, we didn’t get to see enough of Ryoko’s criminal, bad girl side even in Universe, so seeing her portrayed as such in Mihoshi’s story (not of Ryoko, mind you, of some other space pirate, wink wink) was awesome.
I also liked seeing Washu portrayed as her mother, something Universe obviously didn’t have, but unlike oav, we get a little bit of insight into their family relationship as one that would be considered a bit more ‘normal’ due to the fact that Ryoko seems to have been a child at one point and grown up, as suggested by the photographs found by Mihoshi (you know, instead of Washu combining mass & ‘growing’ Ryoko in a tube, or whatever she did in oav).
okay, I mentioned Washu, so Washu fans, that’s your cue! *passes the mic

And thank you. I guess I’m just quick to deny “praise” if I don’t see what it’d be for. (“tracings?” says I, “aww, not worthy”) So now that you elaborate on the shading and what-not, I understand
I certainly don’t want to stereotype, but I’m that way too often, ForWashuu, not one to brag/talk myself up. I think it’s that good ol’ midwestern, easy-going attitude.
oh yes, & to stay on topic, more tribute for Washu
