It’s a bit late, I know, but I want to thank everybody who turned out for the Manga cast! It was without a doubt the best cast the forum has done yet, and I have high hopes that it will bring in more people to the Manga! In case any of you missed the announcement in the podcast section, here is the full thing for your enjoyment: [BBvideo 425,350]

Well, now that one of the main original goals of this thread has been met, a sensible person would return to the normal flow of events and wait for the new members to join in. I have never been a sensible person!
😆 I want this thread to be bursting with awesome activity when those new readers arrive, so prepare your brains for more great manga discussions, and what better place to start than where we left off in the cast: possible continuations. Not every story or character in the Manga was neatly brought to a succinct conclusion, leaving open the possibility that there is still room for expansion on established plot lines. Which character or story do you guys feel is most ripe for continuation? For me it is definitely Tama, the cute, peaceful remnants of Dark Washu. They could have taken her character so much farther, but instead she turned into a background character who served literally no purpose whatsoever. I’d love to see her develop some more, perhaps dealing with some re-emergent Dark Washu memories or something. What do you guys think?

That’s a nice one of Mihoshi, Nobuyuki! I especially like little Ryo-Ohki trying to go for one of those conveniently placed carrots! 😆 And now it’s my turn!

agreed! it would be awesome to see her past
🙂
Well, you know there’s quite a bit of this in the manga series, but that’s for another thread! :Cheeks:Anyway, I too would be thrilled to see more of Ryoko’s life before she joined up with the gang, although really the same can be said for each member of the cast! One of my favorite parts of TiT is actually the brief view we are given of Ryoko as a space pirate, and the nature of that profession in the universe. Such a concept would be difficult to work around in the OVA continuity, largely because Ryoko was little more than a puppet of Kagato’s during her space pirate days. I would most like to see this done in the Universe continuity, mostly because she isn’t all-powerful in that line, in fact, she’s just another pirate. The real reason I would love to see this particular version though can be summed up in one word: Nagi! Seriously, Nagi is an amazing counterpoint to TU Ryoko, and she was criminally underused in the show. The implications of their history, and the world building that cold be accomplished by it, is peppered all throughout the show, and now it’s just waiting to be picked up and expanded on!

If memory serves we once had a similar thread to this one before we made the switch to 3.0…. Anyway, this is a concept that I have always loved to speculate about! Kiyone is such a great character, but she suffers from MAJOR lack of backstory when compared to the rest of the cast. Just why exactly is she a galaxy police officer? Why is she stuck with Mihoshi? A series like this, while focusing mainly on world building/showing the rest of the galaxy in the Tenchiverse, could easily delve into such questions and really help us get a better feel of who Kiyone is as a person. Of course I’m saying all this as a HUGE Kiyone fan, but from a general fan perspective this idea also makes a lot of sense. TU only gave us a very brief look into its particular galaxy, but what we did see was a much more dynamic and spread out galaxy than the Jurai-centric universe of the OVA. This opens the doors for limitless settings and developments. While the general consensus seems to be that such a show should be a prequel to TU, I would actually be more interested to see it take place immediately following the conclusion of the show, mostly due to the great setup of galactic affairs that was shown briefly in the last episode.
Well, that’s my ramblings on the subject for the moment, but this is just such a ripe topic for discussion that I’m sure I’ll be back lol!

That’s a bit of good new right there! From what little exposure I have to the larger anime community I know that Soul Eater is a pretty big show with lots of fans. This should certainly bring in more viewers for Toonami! I can’t say I like the show itself from what little I’ve seen of it, but my brother raves about it (which could mean anything lol).

I bet you didn’t know that the Yamato actually contains a Juraian tree seed, and is capable of producing fourteen Lighthawk Wings!

This is a fan-made crossover art depicting a crossover between Yamato and “Maeterlinck’s Blue Bird”, another TV series produced by Yoshinobu Nishizaki (the producer of Yamato). I gotta say though, it’s pretty damn cool to think of the possibilities of a Lighthawk Wing wielding Yamato…

Oh man I LOVED Xena and Hercules when I was a kid! Those shows rocked, especially when I started reading and exploring the world of Greek myths and could put some of the pieces together! I’ve been meaning to rewatch some of them on Netflix myself, but school, graduation, and anime have gotten in the way lol. - February 1, 2013 at 1:35 PM

Well, with the (very) successful conclusion of the manga cast, and unless I am mistaken, we’ve finally caught up to all of the officially selected topics for discussion, which means it’s time to start suggesting new topics again! I just did some digging through past posts, and some very intriguing ideas have already been put out there. I’ve listed these in order of not just their personal appeal, but their relevance and potential for success IMO. 1. Pretty Sammy. Like Universe, OVA, TiT, and the manga, this is an entire branch of the show, with its own materials and unique talking points. It is relatively well known in the fandom, and there are plenty of people here who could carry on a decent conversation.
2. War on Geminar. Following the FUNi licensing, and recent release of info regarding release dates and dub casts, there is definitely a large interest in the fandom for discussion of this series. Again, there are more than enough of us here to carry on a good convo. The only reason this isn’t #1 in my listing is because I think it would be better suited for a release timed after the first couple dub eps are released in a few months.
3. Music. This one is my personal favorite, but would probably be better suited after we finish up summarizing the “main” branches of the show, like Pretty Sammy and Geminar. EVERYONE has great, and differing opinions regarding their favorite music from the various shows/movies, and would be easily carried out and understood by the fandom.
4. Doujins/Novels. Like Pretty Sammy and Geminar, this is a significant branch of the Tenchiverse, but there are many problems that need to be overcome first. We wouldn’t have nearly as many people in on this cast due to lack of knowledgeable doujin people. Likewise, this one would be the most difficult to frame in a way that would be understandable to the larger fandom.
Well, those are my picks from the already established suggestions, and they don’t even include new ones that might be thrown out there in the future! Time to weigh in on the next awesome cast!
