Day 16 – On a cheerier note, favorite canon couple: the indomitable duo Isaac and Miria. They’re two halves of a coin, can’t have one without the other, and
it takes them almost a hundred years to realize they’re immortal: they were too busy having fun with each other all along the way to notice.Best. Couple. Ever.

Oh yeah!
I can personally attest to, and the manga with Ifurita on the cover is legit, indicated by the Viz Comics logo on the front. The author, Hidetomo Tsubura, was allowed to takeThat thar blu-ray setEl-Hazardin yet another direction different than all the animated incarnations. ( EHtruly is TM!‘s sister series after all!) It has also been translated into English, and I hope to soon experience Tsubura’s take myself (it sounds pretty cool). The other novels have never been officially translated into English, and…I forget atm where they fit in exactly, if chuck jumps in he could help here (or anyone else, jump in, water’s fine).

Day 15 – Most epic or shocking moment? I’ll choose shocking (as in not “epic” in a good or cool sense). A lot of moments from
Evaare contenders, but I’m going to go with a scene from Black Lagoon: Roberta’s Blood Trail. Use discretion because not only are there spoilers, but this one ain’t pretty folks, so consider yourselves warned:
As Roberta is on her murderous trail of carnage and spiraling ever further down the path of psychosis, Garcia Lovelace–a young boy who is the anchor of her sanity and focal point for her protective zeal–obliviously follows her trail of destruction to find his beloved matronly figure (whom he naively sees as being incapable of such atrocities) engaging in animalistic, depraved sexual acts with a guerrilla soldier in order to lower his guard and ultimately kill him in the most brutish, gory manner imaginable. What’s more, as evidenced to us viewers and likely to the discombobulated Garcia by this point (I don’t wish to check again, but if I recall there were already multiple corpses littering the dimly lit room before his arrival), this tactic was not employed out of necessity: Roberta’s physical prowess, mental instability and razor-honed killing skills means she can pretty much wipe out whomever she damn well pleases in an instant, meaning no need for the tokenfemme fataleor feminine wiles…meaning she did it for sheer amusement and sick thrills. Kill a man? Sure, okay…get him hot and heavy and thenkill him during the heat of the moment? Now THAT’S hot! (That’s as best as I can imagine what must have been going on in her depraved mind.) It’s only after the deed is done and Roberta climbs down from the high of her blood lust that she notices that the last person in the world she would ever want to have witnessed such an act, let alone from her, did just that: the child she was avenging and had looked after for so many years saw her dark side. Can it get worse? Yup. Because at the shock of seeing Garcia in the last place one would logically expect him to be, Roberta maddeningly concludes that he’s just a hallucination (she’s been struggling with those up to this point), picks up a gun, and hysterically decides to prove it by shooting him. Stunned by the events he’d just seen, and coupled with being confronted by the woman who had dotingly raised him since infancy, Garcia is too numb to move: to prevent us viewers from being reduced to a
completepile of blithering mush, Garcia is saved at the very last second (by U.S. soldiers if I recall, the chief cause of Roberta’s rage). But for Garcia, as for me and many other viewers, it was a moot point: the damage was done. wth2 That one’s gonna’ stay with me, as willBlack Lagoonas a whole. - March 10, 2015 at 9:40 PM

Super catching up time! I think I’ve already failed the challenge but oh well! Day 9 – First anime crush.
Ya’ll ought to know by now. ^^

http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g463/wwwwhhhhoooo/whocares/pag026_zps644q5gl3.jpg " /> Day 11 – Do I like yaoi and/or yuri?
Not particularly; I don’t hate them or anything, it’s just not really my cup of tea. I can’t even think of any I’ve seen.
Day 12 – Favorite music in an anime
TOUGH! There’s a lot, but I’ll say anything from
Fullmetal Alchemistseries (original and/or Brotherhood). It’s just what it needs to be at the right time, whether it be grandiose, heartfelt, awe-inducing, spine chilling, or peppy. [BBvideo]http://youtu.be/R7ezKLiN7jw [/BBvideo] Great choice btw Chaud, I love that they did that song in Russian. The other versions are lovely as well, but that one punches the hardest for some reason.
Day 13 – Favorite VA/seiyuu
Favorite seiyuu? I’ll say Takehito Koyasu, a.k.a. Dio Brando. I love the dub of the original OVA, but you can’t help but be mortified and awestruck by Koyasu’s rendition of a true monster.
Favorite VA? I don’t know if I can do it! Doug Smith’s Kentaro Oe? Jeff Nimoy’s Nicholas D. Wolfwood? Lenore Zann’s Aisha Clanclan? R. Martin Klein as Lord God Jinnai? So many…well, since her character had such profound impact on me, she gave an objectively amazing performance, and she’s a sweetheart in real life, I’ll go with Petrea Burchard as one Ryoko “The Space Pirate” Hakubi.
Day 14 – Anime character I hate?
Aun courtesy of
Photon: The Idiot Adventures. Granted, she’s set up largely to be the target of everyone’s ire, but boy did it work and then some: I can’t stand her. - March 10, 2015 at 12:43 AM

I think “Science Fantasy” is as close as a descriptive one-liner for such TM!elements. This is a great topic, and it’s one of the many reasons I love TM!so much! Much like Outlaw Star, it really is a healthy mixture of science and magic, and individual people choosing what belongs on which category or what categories there really are lends to its staying power. Though due to my own experiences I tend to view science as the “fun buster” in writing and my own life, objectively speaking
everythingand anything falls under “science” if it’s objectively observable or quantifiable. So, though from my own personal view I would contend “The Devil Caller” Ryoko conjuring spirits falls in the spiritual/fantastic/magic realm, I am also aware that Washu is likely responsible for all of Ryoko’s abilities, including evocation…which means in Washu terms, even Shinto-esque fiddling around with souls or the essence of the divine found in even inanimate things is SCIENCE!!!- March 10, 2015 at 12:32 AM

evilpii wrote:What are your thoughts on this theory?
I think, as usual, you’re a mad genius, pii! As you yourself stated right off the bat, this is indeed a theory, but a damn good one. If one uses their imagination to travel back in time and do some digging into the history of
Tenchi Muyo!, considering this theory within its native context as it has been represented and proposed brings very intriguing possibilities; in that same vein, moreover, if one looks at the core concepts of the OVA narrative from a time before Tenchiwas Tenchias we know it (before Universe, Tokyo, GXP, the second and third OVA, everything), from a storytelling standpoint this simply makes the most sense. Thus in my view, as has been presented before, this is further proof that Tenchicould very well have gone another way, and what we are seeing via Hasegawa’s novels and these remnants still leftover within the first OVA itself are the blueprints of a long forgotten–or in the case of Western fandom, completely unknown–example of “what could have been” of a profound (even arguably, poignant) nature. Sure, there are other explanations to the points pii brought up, because as we all know the franchise continued on, largely leaving Hasegawa–from a story-crafting perspective one of the original architects of
TM!–behind. But again, if a hardened and knowledgeable fan can find the ability within themselves to look at things conceptually through fresh eyes, when you enter these inputs things instantly make sense; they add simple, usually-taken-for-granted coherence to the framework and plot surrounding Jurai and Yosho’s motives. If need be, take
TM!out of the equation and consider the following: If there is no ill will between siblings, why would there be a conflict of succession between a first born son and a younger sibling, a daughter no less (again, think archaic notions of power, patriarchy etc.)? Back to Tenchi, Yosho’s lineage from Earth is the explanation, and it still works, but not very squarely: Funaho being “co-Empress” and wife to the Emperor doesn’t seem to be a big deal, and if you say it is to some individuals–whether royalty or commoners–it’s almost a moot point, because the fact that Funaho is in the position she is in clearly demonstrates that Azusa (and probably his all-controlling mother-in-law) basically has effectively said “deal with it.gif” meaning that could just as well fly for Yosho’s acceptance to the throne (plus, don’t tell me race, planet of origin, or even familial ties matter all that much: ever since GXPshowed us Seina is now in line, it’s not so much a monarchy as it is a winner-take-all, open-entry position). But what if Yosho were a bastard? All of a sudden, the concerns of succession, legitimacy (power), and political/legal maneuverings (making a law to allow Funaho to be a legitimate wife would pave the way for her son to also have legitimate power), along with an arranged marriage to potentially appease all parties from a political standpoint (whether Ayeka’s mother would truly approve of such a union, in this “what was once an idea” hypothetical context, would largely be irrelevant if Azusa shoehorned such a union: Misaki’s oldest would take the throne, as would his firstborn son, ending potential conflict and making it “work” albeit in an odd, “I’m the king so there” kind of way) just makes sense.
It could even explain why the unobtrusive Yosho would not assert his right for the throne…there’s the angle we all know–that he simply didn’t want it–but what if there was more to it…what if he didn’t believe he had the right?
It’s intriguing, no doubt about it. Good work, pii.

Day 8 – Crossover: I would LOVE an Outlaw Star/Tenchi Universe crossover (I lean more towards Universesimply because thematically it would be more conducive to such a pairing). The infamous space pirate Ryoko running into the legendary outlaw Gene Starwind? No part of that is uncool.
