Welcome to the forum, cap! I’m thrilled to have another trekkie and sci-fi fan around! I too am a huge fan of the classics . I also love Robotech/Macross very much, but I’ve always been more of a Space Battleship Yamato/Star Blazers fan, which you would also probably love since you’re a Robotech fan. Anyway, it’s great to have you here, and I hope you enjoy your time here! There’s plenty to do for a creative person such as yourself, and I look forward to seeing you around the boards! P.S. Great art!

Welcome to the forum, Kaisodam! I’m glad you like the cast! It’s one of our most proud and popular aspects of Tenchiforum, and it’s brought in scores of fans over the years, myself included! I hope you continue to enjoy the cast, and in the meantime you should feel free to make yourself at home here and join the fun! See you around the boards! As far as movies go, I agree %100 with Dagon. Batman Returns is always what I will think of when someone says “live action Batman movie.” My FAVORITE Batman, however, is not a movie but a tv series. It is, of course, Batman: The Animated Series! I am a HUGE fan of Bruce Timm’s animated DC universe, and it was never better than in this series. It absolutely nailed the atmosphere of crime stricken, steampunky Gotham City, and the acting was phenomenal. Most importantly, however, was how well the characters were written. Bruce Wayne was still a brooding character, rather than a crazy one. He had many issues, to be sure, but he was still a functioning, rational human being, unlike in many later iterations. And the Joker. Heath Ledger was a fine actor, and he brought gravitas to the role in the Dark Knight, but he was not the definitive Joker in my mind. That honor belongs to Mark Hamill. He could be scary and demented as hell, but he was still a clown. Honestly, isn’t it scarier not knowing if the gun being held to your head by a laughing maniac will actually shoot you, or just go “bang!”? Anyway, that’s why B:TAS is my favorite Batman iteration. As for favorite villains, that’s slightly harder to say. I have always loved the Batman villains more than almost any other series’ villains, but some stand out to me. My favorite is probably the Penguin. I just like his classy demeanor, and come on, his character design is just awesome. I also really like Dr. Freeze, for the reasons Dagon said above. I also really like Poison Ivy, for, well, reasons.

First off, welcome to the forum hello_Tenko! We’re always thrilled to have passionate people join up and share their thoughts! Feel free to look around and make yourself at home here! Now that that’s out of the way, WOW. You’ve got some really neat thoughts going on right here! You’re definitely not alone in speculating over Mihoshi’s backstory in the OVA. She really is one of the great enigmas left. I really like your theories regarding Mihoshi’s possible relations to Z and Tokimi. We already know that she has a familial relationship with one Chousin goddess already (Washu), and it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility in Kajishima’s continuity to think there might be more to it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone speculate about Z’s past in quite the way you have, but I could see it potentially working out the way you describe it. Goodness knows Z is mystery himself, and quite a few of us here have come up with some interesting theories about him as well! Good on you!
Anyway, thanks again for sharing your theories with us, and feel free to join in the fun wherever you find something interesting on the forum! We’re glad you found us, and I hope to see you around the boards!

I love El Hazard! I had always heard tell of the many similarities and “connections” between EH and Tenchi, but I held off actually watching it for over two years. Easily one of the dumbest choices I’ve made since getting back into anime! El Hazard OVA 1 is so incredibly like Tenchi Muyo! it’s clear as day that they are both children of Hiroki Hayashi. I agree entirely with Who and Nobuyuki in saying that El Hazard ≥ Tenchi Muyo!, broadly speaking. It’s so refreshing to find another series that radiates all the same qualities that make TM! so engaging and fun. I CANNOT recommend this series enough for fans of Tenchi, or fans of fun and fantasy in general!
Currently, I’ve only seen the two OVA series (of which I enjoyed the first slightly more), and half of the TV series, which is LITERALLY El Hazard’s equivalent of Tenchi Universe. I’m probably getting redundant at this point, but watching this franchise all the way through is like rediscovering Tenchi. Two OVAs, two TV series, released in almost the same order, and each possessing the nearly the same qualities! I just wish that El Hazard had gotten a movie or two, like Tenchi and AIC’s other big 90’s franchise, Ah! My Goddess, did. And boy oh boy, could they have made one hell of a movie!
I’ll wrap up this post (the first of many, I’m sure), with a brief recounting of my favorite characters from the show. First and foremost there is Katsuhiko Jinnai. This guy. He is so hilariously over-the-top evil, and so ridiculously convoluted in his scheming that he unintentionally becomes the most lovable and charismatic character in the show! Plus, his laugh is without a doubt the greatest laugh in all of anime! Next up is the perpetual boozer Masamichi Fujisawa. A history teacher (
) and chronic alcoholic, Fujisawa is the ultimate bro. While everyone around him is freaked out about the craziness of the world, he’s just looking for his next drink. He and the MC, Makoto Mizuhara, develop such a great rapport that their banter by the end is legendary. Finally, is the bombastic priestess of fire, Shayla Shayla. Cut from the same cloth as our own hard playing space pirate Ryoko, Shayla is a brash, hot headed tomboy who prefers to charge headlong into a fight. These three are far from the only great characters from EH, but they are the ones that never cease to entertain! Well, that’s it for now. What about everyone else?

I love it! soawesome1 Dagon’s impersonation of Chuck:
1. Constantly harps on Yamato
2. Whines about law school
3. Drinks while in podcasts.
Sounds about right
