Only knowledge I have of sammy is from Dual’s ties, and what manga I’ve gotten past my hands,

though I did see the special once. Since you’re focusing on sammy proper, nothing I can add.

I will probably sit this one out.

Your call JG, but I’d bet not everyone who’s seen either Dual or Pretty Sammy would be aware of those connections, might be a cool perspective.

As for me, I dunno. I mean, I always like being in on the casts, but I haven’t seen all of Pretty Sammy, so I’m not sure I’d be an informed enough viewer. If there’s enough knowledgeable participants, I wouldn’t mind sitting out to make room.

I’m not even sure if it was the ova or the first series I saw. It was the one with this guy in it:

maybe I can catch up before the cast, we’ll see.

I can’t help but feel a sense of melancholy knowing that one of the greats of the 20th and 21st century is retiring, but he’s certainly earned it–and for that, I’m also glad. He continues to be revered by international critics, inspiring to younger animators and directors, and emulated by national cinemas to this day, likely for another century to come.

He showed the world the true potential of 2D, traditional animation, and hopefully thanks in no small part to his efforts, it will continue to be seen as a relevant avenue to be explored and utilized in cinema around the globe. When you’re watching a Miyazaki film, you can just see his passion and dedication to his craft behind every frame. It was this dedication that lead to the fruits of his labors that we’re familiar with today, and these in turn helped to legitimize anime as a whole within the fields of international film studies.

I very much like the sentiment expressed in the article that just because he’s retired doesn’t mean he’ll quit his passion cold turkey; maybe we can look forward to a few short projects in the future.

I believe the first Miyazaki film I ever saw was Spirited Away, and boy did it blow my mind. I was hooked on Miyazaki from that moment on, and in hindsight it likely planted the seeds that would contribute to my own desire to study international cinema. Sadly I’ve not seen his latest film, The Wind Rises, but I plan to remedy that soon.

Well, all of Kajishima-sensei’s works are said to be “linked at the corner,” but I’m not sure I’d go with “canon” or not, only because it isn’t directly tied to TM!R (unlike War on Geminar).

I did watch it YEARS ago. Had a hard time getting passed the hentai elements, but I seem to recall the story was OK. Masquerade was better though.

Thanks for the answer, ANB, and for the straight up review of Agga Ruter. I don’t doubt there might be a decent enough story there, but I couldn’t make it far enough to find it (just not my cup of tea).

    Heh!heh!heh!

Just for the record, would I like to see an OVA 4? You bet! GXP 2? Right on!

But yeah, for all I know, Kajishima-sensei wants to finally finish Agga Ruter after all these years. *lol*

😆 lawdy, if it wasn’t for that there bein some mighty explicit hentai, i’d probably be interested in that thar project of his, & any continuation thereafter (isn’t Agga Ruter technically canon?) 😳

On the Ohayocon page, the menu link to Otakon is missing from the same navigation menu.

Actually I’ve noticed that on a couple pages, but not a big deal. If maintenance would like specific pages, I can go through and list them later.

So literally all it can be is Paradise War, Seikishi 2, and OVA4, unless he decides to animate more Dual and the Novels, If I’m missing something, than by all means, but this theory/assumption is far more grounded in reality than anything else, I’m playing it by the book (literally), lol.

Do we have to fill in the blanks quite a bit here? Of course, it’s all we can do, not only hearing only tidbits being non-Japanese fans, but the fact that Kajishima plays it close to the chest.

I think these three are a good bet, and it’s what I’d put my money on if I had to guess. In our cast discussion on the matter (before this new information) between those of us participating, this seems to be where we generally overlapped on opinion (though, in the cast, I had thought Paradise War could have been an OVA, but it wouldn’t be a true OVA now seeing as how Kajishima needs to do the novels to hopefully get an anime greenlighted, so technically it would be an adaptation).

Wouldn’t it be awesome, though, if he threw all of us for a loop and did more with Dual? (I know, it won’t happen, but if it did…)

Thanks for sharing here ANB and hats off to anyone working on these translations. Good to hear it sounds like we’ll get some Geminar questions answered, and anything regarding Paradise Wars is exciting.

yeah think thats rhea wisper. as to her role? she must be an artificial human (like doll) because geminar told us that kenshi is half, & im gonna go out on a limb and say he didnt get that from his dad nobuyuki. so her role other than birthing kenshi? dunno, we’ll have to wait and see.

ps thanks nobuyuki n shades. i knew he was for a time limited to 3, didnt know when he learned to handle more, we’ve never really seen him wield more as of yet.

Yeah, I’m behind, but I’ve started AOT. Now, I’m not very far, so I can’t judge very fairly yet (plus, it’s not even finished yet if I’m correct), but thus far it’s quite good–neither ridiculously overrated nor terribly shallow as some of my hipster-ish anime-viewing colleagues would assert–the animation in particular being its strong point. I’ll have to keep viewing to see how their criticisms of pacing and overuse of recaps hold up.
