No. 1
Limiting it to Earth products… what kind of deodorant would any of the Tenchi characters use?
Tenchi… AXE body spray. (secret of the masaki harem revealed?)
Yosho…. classic Old Spice lotion in porcelain bottle.
Noboyuki… BOD shower gel.
I think you nailed it dude!
😆 as far as the rest of the characters, no clue (Iunno what kinda deodorant girls use)How bout this: do you think Tenchi will sport the stache when he gets older? (Grampa, dad, seems like a tradition going on there). How would the girls feel about this? (I think Ryoko would like it, in OVA her fantasy involving cooking for him included one mustache-wielding Tenchi).

Not exactly atm, but should be our next one (if you want in, wouldn’t hurt to put your foot in the door now, i.e. replying to this thread).

I like how you say you’re “on the fence” Ninjaboy, because honestly I am too. While any occasion to see more of the Tenchi cast would, and should, be a fun experience to look forward to, in the back of my mind I dread any new content comprising the main cast, particularly Ryoko, because I’m a Tenchi dub fan, and the company now calling the shots concerning the Tenchi franchise over here has thus far demonstrated that they don’t really care about the series, let alone the integrity of the work, or for that matter have any respect for continuing all the previous hard-won efforts of their predecessors (Pioneer, in the context of Tenchi) or maintaining verisimilitude for the sake of their viewers. So, I’m guessing (pessimistically) that if, say, there was a Tenchi crossover with
Geminar(or any new work, such as OVA) rather than doing the right thing and recasting the proper actress for Ryoko–the equivalent of saying “gee, we really messed up guys, we admit it, hope you’ll forgive us”–they’ll maintain their own verisimilitude and stubbornly stick to their guns in their miscasting of one of the most memorable female leads in anime history. Also, good point ML about keeping crossovers to a minimum, at least in the spinoff series themselves. If they’re truly going to stand on their own feet, and not just exist as Tenchi spinoffs, Kajishima has to distance them a certain degree (even if/when we want to see more).

Good post! I like what you said about Skyrim “returning to its Morrowind roots” because although many elements such as graphics and gameplay have been altered with the changing times, one way it really struck me as fulfilling this condition was, as you mentioned, the music–the Morrowind theme in the Dragon-tongue, with a hearty, manly Nord choir shouting a grand chorus chilled my bones the first time I heard it. You make a valid point about the more textured graphics, and your opinion is valid as well, but I certainly don’t think the Dunmer look ugly. They may have sharp features and perhaps coarse skin, but look at their homeland (and, well, the “curse” put upon them in ye olden days), but all reasons aside I find their appearance holding of a certain elegance; the women in particular look beautiful, with their softer complexion and smoother features (in my several incarnations as Dragonborn, two of my wives were Dunmer). They are also one of my favorite Elder Scrolls races.
you beat Oblivion–not just main quest–in 2 weeks?

mitsuki lover wrote:Though as the question has been raised,is Cowboy Bebop a Western or a Film Noir anime?
Mmmmmm yes?
I know Japan of all places has very rigid concepts of genre (stemming from manga, the precursor to anime) but a truly great work like
Bebop, as novel as it is, I think with it, along with many other films/tv series, you might not necessarily be able to peg into one box. Genres are created after the fact, and it often also holds true for assigning a work into a previously-existing genre. What constitutes a genre? Lots of little things that can be clearly identified that then add up and coagulate into a discernible look or feel. What constitutes the film noir genre? Stylistic choices such as dark lighting, gloomy alleyways, black silhouettes and an overhanging feel of mystery, intrigue and pessimism. Does Bebophave some of those elements? Yes. So, I would say it has film noir characteristics (along with others) instead of worrying about fitting it exclusively into one genre or the other. - July 12, 2013 at 6:39 PM

Give it til Saturday, then I suspect this will be rectified
😉 Also, generally that’s how I’ve observed it handled: Team Sasami=Team Tsunami, vice-versa (Sasami=Tsunami, Tsunami=Sasami).

Yamamoto 2199: From every source I’ve heard that I value and trust, this is a must-see. I regret not having seen it yet, and plan to ASAP. Demon King Daiomo: I’ll be honest here, I disliked this one terribly. This is my personal opinion, and could be chalked up to “not my cup of tea” but again, in all honesty, objectively it’s really nothing spectacular or stand-out. It is a fairly typical “rage against the heavens” anime (which isn’t its weakness), so however you feel about those will likely have a big influence on your viewing experience. (If you don’t want to read my rage review, please skip the following passage outlined below)
Here, however,
isits weaknesses. Not only is the fan service frequent and gratuitous, but banal and predictable. It’s not even a small, ignore-able part of the show if you happen to not care for anything ecchi (as is, say, the fan service in Geminar). It’s the main edifice of the show. A lazily-thrown-on plot is included so it can call itself an anime. Add that to the fact that the main character (and by extension, the show itself) has an uppity attitude about not only established religion but any sort of reverence, or belief, or
possibilityof belief in a higher power that equates to the pubescent-fueled angst expressed as non-intelligently and non-eloquently as could be expected from a freshman undergrad in their first week of Philosophy 101 and thinking they’ve got everything figured out–i.e. annoying (there’s nothing wrong with being atheist, but if your attitude about it is “I’m so much smarter than all of you” solely because you’re not religious and others are, on top of you won’t shut up about it…well, why would I put up with that, let alone sit through ‘x’ number of episodes of an anime?). It’s not even a redeemable character flaw of his (as is so with Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist). From the get-go, it’s “look at this character, he’s so much smarter than everyone else because he’s the first one to everhave the idea of disbanding religion, he’s brilliant!” And all of this,
ALLof this would be bearable were it not for the fact that he turns around and assumes his predestined role (as ordained by “God”) as “King of the Demons.” It strikes me as hypocritical (kind of like a hard-lined atheist begging to God for help when a storm hits, or religious leaders professing charity while lining their pockets with donations…hypocrisy, in any form, irks me something terrible).
(Rage over)
Where was I? Oh yeah,
Vandread: I tried that a number of years ago, but it didn’t really click with me and I didn’t even make it through the first episode. If you do watch it, and it’s good, please let me know (or any others, I enjoy recommendations). No joke, this: [BBvideo 425,350]

jk. But seriously, not liking
The Godfather? I respect your opinion, and the bravery to state it, but wow. Trigunis one of my favorites. The first “Space Western” I ever saw, and at the time, blew me away for its novelty while tapping in to two long-held Western traditions (the wild west and space) consisting of all the things Dagon stated–the rugged frontier, virgin territory ripe for exploration, untamed settlements, lawlessness, etc. There are many other reasons I continue to enjoy it as well, but they are too many to list here and now (one in particular I found fascinating was the dichotomy of Vash and Knives. Their similarities in appearance and common origin, combined with their differing methods of coping in a society that doesn’t want them and questions their humanity, and how they view humanity in general, all seem creatively recreated in Hiromu Arawaka’s work Fullmetal Alchemist). Cowboy Bebop. Yes, it’s everything you’ve heard: a classic, a tier-one anime, excellent dub, etc. etc. I particularly enjoy re-watching it with my roommate who not so long ago was totally disinclined to even give anime a try. Thanks to Bebop, his biased views have been shattered. Outlaw StarI literally haven’t seen since it was on Toonami, and even then I saw very few episodes (guess I was too preoccupied with Tenchi and Trigun, or whatever else). It’s on my “must own” list. While people can of course comment further on their own opinions about the anime themselves, another good followup would be, as Dagon brought up, why do you think this sub-genre burned out so quickly given the success of these three series?
