  • ^Yes, and that’s probably how Shogakukan discovered her because she was publishing doujinshi since 1975.

As far as the series itself goes,I really rather enjoy it a lot. :D

    Who doesn’t?

Well then, I’d recommend Mujigen Hunter Fandora. It’s another 80s anime, and that’s all I’ve been talking about, but honestly… Apart from Gundam and Star Blazers, I’m fairly unfamiliar with 70s anime. Urusei Yatsura actually came out in 1978, but everyone considers it an 80s series despite finishing ten years later at the height of the 1980s Japanese bubble economy. It’s best to forget about Always, My Darling.

^I haven’t watched Bill in ages, but I find his guests usually more condescending than him. The reason people hate him is because he’s down-to-Earth.
I never got burnt-out per se. I just gradually stopped caring until I was introduced to a new anime or two by one of my friends.

It’s a different art style, but it’s aight. I actually like your signature better, even though I prefer Merc W201s.

Welcome back. Good for you getting a job. You say you work at a retail empire… So by any chance, did you fill Mitten’s vacancy?

Also good luck in about three weeks, because then it’s f-ing Christmas if you know what I mean.

^I was going to say it’s been out of print for a long time, but I noticed the forum dates from 2006…

The AnimEigo set is crap anyway. I don’t care how significant it is to the anime community. It seems for all of AE’s earlier releases that everything looks so faded, maybe from a filtering process they did to add the subtitles. I’ve seen taped broadcasts with better quality than the DVDs. Also, since they command outrageous prices, you might as well go all the way.

It is true that the cultural refrence has a humongous impact as well as the monkey see monkey do thing. America is really sensitive about these kind of things, Japan just flat out doesn’t give a crap.

Well they do, but generally there’s a better judgement on whether something is truly obscene. The main reason it’s difficult in America to determine if something offensive should be censored, regulated, or banned is because our society is losing cultural consensus for the sake of political correctness.

Well I’d rather have a prequel! I’ve said countless times I’d love to see a MihoKiyo series spin off. It’d be nice too seeing how the others fared before they came to Earth. In Ryoko’s case we’d likely see her and Nagi again. Washu would be in the science academy, and Ayeka/Sasami would be.. on Jurai? Not sure how that could be humouress/action like the other characters pasts. fyeahplz

^ An idea for this could be whilst they are on their way to Jurai they all sit around a table and tell each other their pasts? It’d make more sense I reckon rather than starting with scenes from their past.

Of course I wouldn’t say no to a sequel. Its just.. how could they do it right when we had such a nice closing to the series? What would be worth revisiting it all for?

I agree. While I consider Universe superior to the OAV in most aspects, I never liked that Ryoko’s back story was relatively unknown. I’d like to see it all emphasized, even if it’s manga form.

It’s also funny that Toonami wanted to make a series that was aimed at an older audience ‘kid friendly’

    in the first place.

The funny thing is, Tenchi wasn’t aimed at an older audience. It was a shonen anime, meaning it was aimed at kids our age (preteen) when it was released. It’s just our society is so ass-backwards that you’re allowed to have magazines on display at the supermarket checkout talking about sex moves, but if something questionable happens on TV, it’s the end of the world. Seriously, cultural rot comes from a lot worse places.
